Religious Org Wants Judge Walker To Excuse Himself From Prop 8 Trial

It doesn’t matter if he’s gay, eh?  Of course it doesn’t—-for people who don’t have problems with gay judges.

The Liberty Counsel, a non-profit religious and political organization based out of Orlando, Florida, sent out a press statement today demanding that Judge Vaughn Walker recuse himself from the Prop 8 trial. The Liberty Counsel resolutely believes Judge Walker’s sexuality would undoubtedly color his ability to make a sound and unbiased ruling on the case.

We assure you this Judge Walker fan club is just starting to ramp up membership. There will be more to come on the judges sexuality from the freaked out bible thumpers without a shred of doubt.

If you all remember, this past weekend the San Francisco Chronicle outed Judge Walker.

Like Hell It Doesn’t Matter That Prop 8 Trial’s Judge Walker Is Gay

bullshit What’s that famous quote by William Shakespeare? Umm…oh yes. “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” That’s the one. It fits the following scenario perfectly.

Un–frigging—believable. We wake up this morning and check our email which revealed to us a slew of posts across the LGBT blogosphere with these ridiculous headlines about how it doesn’t matter that Prop 8 trial judge Vaughn Walker is gay.  Are these people on drugs? Of course it matters!

If it didn’t matter then why the hell is the LGBT blogging community tripping over each other to write a post about Judge Walker being outed by the San Francisco Chronicle this weekend—–then only to breathlessly follow that up with the disclaimer in the title of their posts—–But, well, you know,  it doesn’t matter. BULLSHIT.  And these jive bloggers know it.   Oh hell to the yes—- it most certainly does matters.

Ask the defenses lead counsel Andrew Pugno on the down-low.  He’ll be more than willing to tell you just how much it matters.

SF Chron Says Prop 8 Judge Vaughn Walker Is Gay

Very interesting….the developments from the Prop 8 trial never cease to amaze. Based on this last piece of news there will be more to come no doubt. Today the San Francisco Chronicle reveals that Prop 8 trial Judge Vaughn Walker is himself, gay. We’re not even gonna bore you with our thoughts on the matter. We’ll just turn you on to the source. Although we will say this much: if Judge Vaughn Walker’s sexuality was a non-issue in terms of the Prop 8 case, why wasn’t it revealed before now?

Read the following:

Judge being gay a nonissue during Prop. 8 trial

The biggest open secret in the landmark trial over same-sex marriage being heard in San Francisco is that the federal judge who will decide the case, Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, is himself gay.

Many gay politicians in San Francisco and lawyers who have had dealings with Walker say the 65-year-old jurist, appointed to the bench by President George H.W. Bush in 1989, has never taken pains to disguise – or advertise – his orientation.

They also don’t believe it will influence how he rules on the case he’s now hearing – whether Proposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure approved by state voters to ban same-sex marriage, unconstitutionally discriminates against gays and lesbians.

“There is nothing about Walker as a judge to indicate that his sexual orientation, other than being an interesting factor, will in any way bias his view,” said Kate Kendell, head of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, which is supporting the lawsuit to overturn Prop. 8.

Courage Campaign Accuses Prop 8 Attorney Of Public Funds Misuse

Holy Ca-moly. Talk about a stunning line of developments. Today, Rick Jacobs, head of Courage Campaign filed a complaint with the California Fair Political Practices Commission accusing Prop 8 defense attorney Andrew Pugno of misusing public funds to help pass the the Knight initiative, a ’90s state legislative effort that called for the ban of gay marriages in California.

Don Imus Supports Gays Getting Married: As Long As They’re Not Nappy Headed Hoes

Don Imus, the infamous shock jock who was fired by CBS in 2007 for his “nappy-headed hoes” reference to the Rutgers University women’s basketball team, threw yet another curve ball today on his Fox TV show Imus In The Morning. In a phone interview with Prop 8 trial plaintiff’s attorney David Boies, the controversial talk show host shared that he too, felt gays should be allowed to marry as long as their heterosexual counterparts do.

Imus jokingly followed that statement up with, “let them be as unhappy as anybody”. It just goes to show sometimes you never know who your friends are—–at least in some respects.

Check this out and also listen to  David Boies as he discusses his platform  in terms of arguments the he used for the justification for gay marriage during the trial:

EQCA’s Geoff Kors Needs To Quit His Jive Lyin’ Ways

geoffkors2

Geoff Kors talkin’ shit again

This always happens right as we get ready to leave our PC after being online for a spell. Just as we were about to click our way to our desktop to shut down for the morning until later on in the day, did our eye catch something rather odd. Wait, is that Geoff Kors writing for the Huff Post, again? What in the world of rich gay white male crazy nonsense could he possibly be babbling about this time?

Well, we found out. Apparently Kors has decided that reaching out to communities of color and other minorities is a good thing. Too bad it took him the entirety of the No On 8 campaign, $40 million in donations down the drain,  him and his staff’s single-minded destruction of the 2010 marriage equality effort and a federal trial that he originally objected against to finally arrive to that conclusion. But hey, better late than never.

In his Huff Post essay today Gay Marriage: From a Federal Case to a National Movement—the part that we find hardest to choke down is this passage:

Here in California we are working hard with allies like the California NAACP, Chinese for Affirmative Action, the Equal Justice Society, and religious and civil leaders in many communities, supporting and championing their priorities and throwing our weight behind their efforts.

Gay Journalists Asso. Takes Swipe At LGBT Bloggers Covering Prop 8 Trial

michael-triplett

NLGJA's Michael Triplett

Ironically in his post this afternoon on the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) blog which is titled React,  NLGJA board member Michael Triplett took aim at gay bloggers, orgs and individuals covering the Prop 8 trial.  After “blogging” that most of the trial coverage is being handled by veteran journalists Karen Ocamb and Lisa Keen—as well as a mention of a smattering of traditional LGBT news outlets and publications, Triplett goes on to say the following:

“The challenge for traditional LGBT media is that they are forced to compete with the online world where no one is paying for coverage. While LGBT bloggers are providing extensive coverage of the trial, they are serving as aggregators and piggy-backing on the coverage paid for by traditional media sources. But covering a trial like this costs money and the LGBT media often lacks the resources to devote to paying for coverage.

There is also extensive use of live-blogging and tweets from inside the courtroom.  While this coverage is interesting, it also has its problems.  First, beyond the coverage by the Advocate, none of the blogging is really being done by LGBT journalists.  Instead, we get self-interested advocacy groups–the National Center for Lesbian Rights, the Courage Campaign, American Foundation for Equal Rights–providing much of the play-by-play.”

Protect Marriage Threatens Courage Campaign With Cease And Desist

CeaseDesist

Read this posting from Courage Campaign’s Julia Rosen on their Trialtracker Web site:

ProtectMarriage.com issues Cease and Desist for Prop 8 Trial Tracker logo depicting family of two mothers with two kids

January 15, 2010

By Julia Rosen

Earlier this week we received a Cease and Desist letter from ProtectMarriage.com, demanding that we immediately take down the logo for this site. (Well actually, they demanded we take it down from the Courage Campaign site, but it was clear that they were ticked off about the Trial Tracker logo.)

They are upset that we are parodying them and are making themselves out to be victims again. It’s just ridiculous. It’s very clear that the our logo is a parody, and they are just freaking out about an image depicting a family of two mothers with two kids. The ProtectMarriage.com logo was originally used as the pro-Prop 8 logo, you know the proposition this trial is about… that little thing.

All these guys want to do is stop everything from being public. They can’t stand the fact that they are on trial, that everything from their motivations to their intent are being scrutinized by a federal judge. After successfully crying wolf to the Supreme Court about the witnesses being shown on TV, they have turned their lawyers on us, or at least a lawyer way out in Ohio.

No, we aren’t going to take it down. We will not let them bully us, or let them turn themselves into victims. And our letter back makes that clear (scroll down to see it).

Here is their letter to us in all its glory:
