Dan Choi because of that marvelous performance today this Oscar's for you (thunderous applause drowns out Dan's fake tearful speech)

Oh boy, don’t we have questions. Gotta give props where props are due. The girls over at the Lez Get Real blog dropped the bomb tonight in telling the world that old Dan Choi’s was discharged way back in June on the 29th. That was almost a month ago.

Constance McMillen Gets Paid And Gay Kids Still Get Beat Up Everyday

Cross posted from ACLU.org

As you may already know, yesterday we announced the settlement of Constance McMillen’s lawsuit against her Mississippi high school for canceling the prom rather than allowing her attend with her girlfriend as her date and wear a tuxedo.

While a terrific personal victory for Constance and a vindication of her rights, the agreement is especially noteworthy in that it will result in the implementation of a policy banning discrimination and harassment on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in the Itawamba County School District – the first such policy to do so at a public school in the state of Mississippi. The fact that, in the year 2010, there was not one policy at any public school protecting LGBT students from discrimination and harassment in Mississippi prior to this agreement is a sad reminder of how vulnerable LGBT youth remain.

What Fox News Did To Shirley Sherrod Gay Inc Bloggers Do All Day Everyday

Photo from the Website "Gays Against Obama"

But nobody calls it racist. Interesting. Read this excerpt however from This Week From Barack Obama blog to get a taste of how even the most ardent fans of the White House are outraged at how the Shirley Sherrod deal was handled:

The media, reporters, in print and video have repeatedly reported the WRONG STORY or evidence of many stories. This also proves that these organizations don’t even do the basic of tasks, as in, picking up a fucking phone to perform basic FACT CHECK. This continues because the public does not demand the full facts and are trained to the “sound bite”. That is our fault for not demanding the truth.

Senator Roy Ashburn Begs For Penance; Wants Outfit Tips For Next White Party

That fateful night. Drunk as a skunk.

Talk about a 360 degree turn. We’re happy for Senator Roy Ashburn. It’s not everyday a formerly closeted lawmaker and republican at that, stands up and see’s the light. Well, in his case he kinda didn’t have much choice after leaving a gay bar and immediately being busted drunk driving. But hey, who’s knit picking?

The good senator went so far as to reach out in an essay on the Gaypolitics blog in which he offers apology and acknowledges what he did was wrong—the parts where he voted against any state legislation for gays. Oh well, we live and we learn.

The Tragedy Of The Black Gay Blogosphere Keeps Getting More Tragic

And his name just so happens to be Tom.

We had an interesting non-exchange this afternoon with black gay blogger Alvin McEwen of the blog Holy Bullies And Headless Monsters. Mr. McEwen has been keeping himself preoccupied lately on Huff Post these days with essays condemning the racism of the Tea Party.

Oh, he’s all worked up about it. And not that we find that problematic. It’s just that with the recent racist rantings of Americablog, our petition responding to those rants, and the overly abundant coverage of the NAACP denouncing the Tea Party, we just felt maybe Mr. McEwen’s outrage could be used somewhere else where outrage on the behalf of black gay politically-minded Americans is long overdue.

So this afternoon when we saw that McEwen had penned yet another diatribe on Teabaggers and racism on Huff Post, we decided to see what he had to say. The post So Much for No Tea Party Racism: Mark Williams Expelled From National Tea Party Federation, of course gave commentary to the recent announcement by the Tea Party that they’d expelled Mark Williams (the author of “the Abraham Lincoln Letter”) and his group Tea Party Express from the National Tea Party Federation specifically because of “the Abraham Lincoln Letter.
