From Gaelick.com

The only thing holding the Anti-Homosexuality Bill back, right now, is Museveni, who is afraid of losing support from Western donors. If there was a vote on it tomorrow, it would pass almost unanimously. To vote against it would be political suicide in Uganda. ~NPR

A year ago, three American Evangelicals traveled to Uganda for a conference on “the gay agenda” to speak about curing homosexuality. The Anti-Homosexuality Bill was proposed just a few months later and introduced some of the harshest punishments in the world for homosexuals. It calls for lifetime imprisonment for all LGBT people, death to homosexuals who are HIV positive and prison for any Ugandan who fails to report LGBT Ugandans within 24 hours of the Bill passing.

Roy Ashburn Clashes With Mark Leno, EQCA, Over Gay Marriage Bill

There's poor overwhelmed Leno in the background while crazy as loon Ashburn daydreams over plans to redo the whole gay marriage scenario in Cali.

We’re beginning to like this Ashburn guy. We like his ballsy-ness. According to On Top Magazine, California Senator Roy Ashburn sent a letter last week to CA Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger asking him to veto the Civil Marriage Religious Freedom Act bill, a pet project of Senator Mark Leno and EQCA.

His reason? Ashburn feels the bill will just create second-class marriages for gay folks.

The Civil Marriage Religious Freedom Act says religious organizations could not be stripped of their tax-exempt status if their clergy refuse to perform any civil marriage that is contrary to the tenets of his or her faith.

Ashburn says he agrees that religious freedoms should be protected, but notes such protections are already in place under existing state law and the U.S. Constitution. Here’s a segment from the letter to Gov. Schwarzenegger:

Kenya: LGBTI Activists Showcase Fight For Human Rights, Strategies On HIV/AIDS Prevention

IGLHRC Staff Members Chivuli Ukwimi and Cary Alan Johnson, Nigerian Activist Ifeanyi Orazaulike, and Georges Kanuma at Pre-Conference workshop on LGBT and HIV Programs, Nairobi, Kenya, 2009

From Kenya Imagine

Written by Keguro Macharia

On May 17, 2010, the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) arranged a reception at the Kenyan National Museum to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO).  Attendees included members from the Gay and Lesbian Coalition of Kenya (GALCK) and other members of Civil Society. This event, the first of its kind, was a public declaration by KHRC that LGBTI rights are human rights.

Prior to this event, KHRC had listed LGBTI rights as a concern on their website. And in 2007, KHRC hosted a special conference that focused onLGBTI rights. However, this reception was in a publicly designated physical space: it was a coming out that wedded sexual rights to human rights at an institutional level.

Sen. Roy Ashburn Talks Shop, Gay Rights, Mehlman

Sen. Roy Ashburn. Bet it feels GOOD for somebody else to be in the hot seat for a change, eh Ashburn?

From One Top Magazine

Senator Roy Ashburn is in the twilight of his service in the California Senate. He came to Sacramento in 1996 and served six years in the Assembly before moving on to the Senate, where he has served his maximum two terms.

In his final months of service, the Bakersfield Republican has come out gay to his conservative district.

His story hit the papers like a tidal wave in March: homophobic Republican ironically turns out to be gay. After leaving a gay bar in Sacramento, Ashburn and a male companion were pulled over for drunk driving. The media attention, says Ashburn, convinced him to come clean after four days in hiding.

New York Times Rips Into LGBT Bloggers Over Mehlman

Joe By God's Joe Jervis. Joe the New York Times thinks you're being too harsh on Mehlman. Cut it out.

Truth Wins Out’s Wayne Beson is hopping mad at New York Times (NYT) op-ed editor Tobin Harshaw for lashing out at LGBT bloggers over their rage and anger at Ken Mehlman.

Says Beson: “Instead of focusing on the damage created by Mehalman and his power-hungry cohorts, Harshaw demonizes bloggers who want to hold the former RNC chairman accountable, as mean and unreasonable. After upholding apologists, such as Gay Patriot B. Daniel Blatt,  as voices of moderation, the author concludes that, “given the commentary of the last two days, that [forgiveness by liberals] doesn’t seem to likely.”

He also goes on to say:
