Angels In America Author Heaps Praise On Obama’s LGBT Rights Record
This is truly amazing. We’re certainly glad somebody shares our sentiments in regards to President Obama and LGBT rights. Tony Kushner, the Pulitzer Prize winning author of the play Angels In America was interviewed recently and discussed his views on Obama and LGBT rights. We’ll say this much, a lotta gay folks aren’t gonna be too happy with what Kushner has to say. We on the other hand are thrilled with Kushner’s words because they speak of a maturity and true examination of the big picture; not at all the kneejerk reaction based on a very limited time span that we’ve been subjected to in the last 12 months. Why am I not surprised that it took a fellow HIV/AIDS activist to appreciate Obama's priorities?! Pushing Hate Crimes and Ryan White Care Act (for services to people living with HIV/AIDS) reauthorization to the head of the list strikes me as a no-brainer. (BTW THe public effort to pass the RWCA bill came almost entirely form outside the LGBT community.) Issuing Executive Orders for all benefits allowable under current law to be extended to partners of Federal employees was the most the President can do.
All the other items on the LGBT "To Do List: require Congressional passage. So, discontented LGBT folks, get off your broad butts and PRESSURE CONGRESS to act. Obama will sign each and every item you want IF CONGRESS PASSES IT! It's easier to sit back and complain thatn it is to get up, work and produce results! Till you get to work (whining is NOT working) STFU!
