The Open Mind: The New Negro PBS Interview 1957 With Martin Luther King
This series of videos is the first ever televised interview with Dr. Martin Luther King in a discussion about the New Negro and his struggle for civil rights. What is striking about this interview is how much of what Dr. King says echos many of the sentiments in today’s struggle for LGBT civil rights. Matter of fact, in terms of attitude and overall vision, Dr. King offers to LGBTs a way of being in the pursuit of full civil rights in America. We urge anyone who is committed to LGBT civil rights and truly wants to make a difference to watch these videos and listen to what Dr. King has to say. But most importantly, focus on how he says it.
We’d like to give thanks to Patrick Yeager of Gay Rights Media for digging this interview up and posting on Facebook. We saw his post and felt like it would be a great move to share this interview with our readers.
