Vote For Equality South LA Canvass July 11th of this year

Today’s Canvass (Saturday, Dec 12. 2009)

Gee, we guess a lotta folks had oodles of Xmas shoppin’ to do. Or couch surfin’. Or just told ‘em, ‘oh hell naw.’ Cause they sure weren’t canvassin’ for marriage equality in the hood today. We’d reported a few weeks back that Vote For Equality, EQCA, Courage Campaign and Love Honor Cherish were joining forces to do a mega canvass of our neck of the woods (EQCA, Love Honor Cherish, And Courage Campaign Plan Ghetto Love Fest). And well, we looked forward to it with anticipation. But as you can see—-we were the only ones lookin’ forward to it.

Nonetheless, LHC’s Lester Aponte updated on his Facebook profile that:

“Tough (and wet) day canvassing today. We spoke to over 200 voters, recruited 16 new volunteers and moved 23.5 percent of the previously unsupportive voters.”

Nice. The miracles one can work with a skeleton crew. Would be nicer if  Vote For Equality and friends would set up some kind of volunteering arm to give back to the community with all those supporters they nabbed today.  Why with the unemployment rate skyrocketing in the black community, healthcare challenges, immigrants living in inhuman conditions in some places, shortage of supplies and books in many schools—sigh, it’s just makes sense to us.

Oh, well. All we can do is do what we’re doing and continue to pray for the Gay Incs to eventually discover the joys of giving. What else can one do?
