Announcement: Liberty Hill Offering Big Grant Money To Grassroots Orgs
Listen up local equality, .orgs and community activist groups!
The Liberty Hill Foundation recently announced that they are accepting applications for their Fund For Change grant program. The Fund for Change provides one-year grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. The is available to California-based organizations only. Deadline to apply is March 15, 2009. They’re especially looking to fund orgs serving in these capacities:
Economic Justice
Liberty Hill seeks to build power in low-income communities and communities of color to create an equitable and just economy. This area of funding addresses issues such as access to employment, safety nets for vulnerable people, immigrant workers’ rights, housing, economic development, and access to quality public education and health care.
Environmental Justice
Liberty Hill seeks to improve public health and the quality of life in communities of color and low-income communities by reducing their disproportionate exposure to environmental hazards and creating sustainable communities. This area of funding focuses on:
• Policy changes to reduce the cumulative impact of multiple hazardous exposures;
• Promotion of policies for sustainable and green economic development;
• Increasing green and open space, as well as clean and sustainable water;
• Transportation policies that reduce toxic exposure, promote sustainability and ensure access;
• Climate action policies that protect the health of vulnerable communities.
LGBTQ Justice
Liberty Hill seeks to combat homophobia and advance equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual,transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people, especially in communities of color and faith communities. We do this by supporting organizations led by and serving LGBTQ people of color, and other groups with similar missions, especially those working to:
• Build public support for marriage equality;
• Create a stronger safety net for LGBTQ youth;
• Reduce barriers to transgender equality; and
• Change HIV/AIDS policies to address the epidemic in communities of color.
